Al Lopez Park

Nothing new these days other than the fast approaching Christmas holiday. Figured I’d post up some photos I took at Al Lopez park in Tampa a few weeks ago. You can find the photos here.

Otherwise I have some photos that I’m working on from around town that I will post soon. Seamus is getting big, fast. Our Xmas tree is up and the cats and dog have not knocked it down.

Meet Seamus

Meet Seamus, the newest member of our extended family.  He’s a chocolate Lab and somewhat shy, but he’s a good dog.  Still working on the house training but he’s learning fast..

  1. I would have named him Malik Shabazz… Seamus is good too.

  2. He’s definately got the chocolate going for him, but I think that Malik Shabazz would get him into trouble..

Seamus has some more laidback connotations - http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/pinkfloyd/seamus.html

  3. hello Seamus….I”m Nini. Tina Cousin. NIce to meet you and welcome you to Newby’s familly, hihihihi

New Website?

What would you say would be the best format for a website that is strictly for showcasing photos?  Does anyone have any good examples of sites for photo display which are not 3rd party such as Flickr or SmugMug?

I’d like to host my own site for photo display and am looking for a good place to start with designing it..

  1. Hey, did you get a chance to go downtown last night and take pictures of dejected red sox fans? Now those would be some priceless pictures….

  2. Yeah, those would have been good, especially after the got all cocky with the game before..

So while I missed the game photos, I got a few good ones of Carl in his throne of balloons..

  3. Awwww… The national media has covered WasteCon to death. No one is covering the red sox and rays. PS Where are those WasteCon photos? You guys living it up? Any cool hats?

  4. Also, as far as how to org the photos on the website - I would recommend having an option to vieew all thumbnails in a particular folder (ie “Tampa”). For whatever reasons it takes me a very long totime to scroll through all of the photos to see the newer ones.

  5. Finally, whenever I post a comment here, anything beyond the first line is cutoff and I cannot see it to make any corrections (hence the typos above).

  6. I’m working on thumbnail galleries, which is a good idea (thanks for the feedback), I’ve had other people complain that the galleties load slowly but thought it was just them. I got some new templates that show the thumbnails and then the flash if someone wants to see a slideshow or whatnot. It also will let people send comments on the photos and galleries. At the moment just about all of the galleries are down with the exception of the Sunken Gardens gallery that I’m using to test out the new template. Take a look, it’s at http://www.matthewnewby.com/Photos/Places/SunkenGardens

Not sure why the blog isn’t letting the lines above the first one be seen, if you don’t mind can you register and see if it does it after registration? It would make it easier to figure out where the problem lies in the code..

  7. By the way, I’ll be at the WasteCon later today to give it some much needed attention on a local level. Rays first game of the World Series is tommorow, so maybe if I’m lucky I’ll get some photos of dejected Phillies fans..

  8. The Sunken Gardens format is a workable format. Pretty intuitive to the user…

  9. Yeah, I’m gonna use that for all the galleries. Made it to WasteCon today, got some photos that I’ll post up later. I event got a hat!

New Photos of Tampa

Took some photos earlier last night of Tampa that are now included in the gallery.  I’ve included the panorama in this post since it’s hard to appreciate when looking at it in a Flash gallery.
